Elizabeth Scheid
WSASC Board Chairperson
Recreation Coordinator, Lakewood Senior Activity Center
Elizabeth
is new to the Association and to the Board. Her role on the board
is to coordinate membership. She is very excited about her position,
as she enjoys networking with other Senior Center Professionals. “I wanted to learn creative programming
ideas and problem solving from others,” Elizabeth explains. “My
passion is working with older adults where I feel like I can make
a difference.”
Elizabeth has worked at the Lakewood Senior
Activity Center for a little over a year. The City of Lakewood recently assumed
operation of the Senior Center as of July of last year. The
Center is broadening its focus into wellness by adding a health & fitness
component and an Outdoor Recreation program. Elizabeth feels
it is imperative for Older Adults to be active, as it is the key
to staying independent. Her Center has quite a variety of
programs, "something for everyone."
Elizabeth previously worked at the YMCA for
almost 13 years with older adults in health and fitness. She has experience with
YMCA of the USA doing trainings for instructors who work with Older
Adults. She is certified by the American College of Sports
Medicine as a Health & Fitness Instructor. Elizabeth also has
her BS in Physical Education-Exercise Science from the University
of Oregon.
Elizabeth has a wonderful husband and two
beautiful children ages nine and 21 months. She enjoys running and scrapbooking… if
she ever has any spare time. Elizabeth brings enthusiasm
and energy to our Board.

Bo Du
WSASC Board 2009-2010
Membership
Bo has been with the City of Burien Parks and Recreation Senior Program for over 2 years. She’s managed the Navy’s community center in Yokosuka, Japan for 3 years before returning to her hometown in the Burien area. Having worked with all ages, she admits that she enjoys seniors the most as “they are the easiest to work with and likes to sit and visit” which makes for a busier, but speedier work day for her. “Although we run the same programs almost daily, no one-day is the same as the next, which makes for a far more interesting adventure at work.” This is her first time on the board and hopes to continue the levels of greatness and success of her predecessors.

Sue Hilberg,
2010 conference chair, Member Services
Bonney Lake Senior Center
Sue decided to jump into the fray with both feet this year, taking on the role of Membership and Conference Chair at the same time. Fortunately, she has several great volunteers already on board to help with what is shaping up to be a fantastic conference.
Sue has worked with seniors for more than 12 years, beginning her career at the Enumclaw Senior Activity Center as the Recreation Coordinator, and now as the Senior Services Manager for the City of Bonney Lake. “Working with seniors has made me realize what is truly important in my life. Life is short, eat dessert first! They have made such an impact on my professional and personal life; I feel as if I have a really big family. To have the honor to share in so many lives and to learn the lessons taught so freely by the seniors that surround me every day is a blessing.”

Katrina Kell
Board Member
My name is Katrina Kell, Coordinator at the Senior Adult Activity Center in Ellensburg, Washington. I graduated from Central Washington University with a degree in Recreation and Tourism. While attending school I did an internship at the Adult Activity Center. From that experience I realized I wanted to continue to work with seniors. After college I worked for three years at an assisted living facility in Yakima as the Life Engagement Coordinator. A temporary position as coordinator opened at the AAC, I applied for the job and was hired. Ten months later the position became permanent.
My goal is to create an environment for older adults to feel comfortable, have fun, fellowship, laugh and treasure life! I enjoy going to work every day and my purpose is to put a smile on a seniors face, talk with them and make them feel welcome. I get to have fun at work!
I am excited to be a member of the WSASC Board to connect with other professionals and broaden my experience as a senior center coordinator.
In my spare time I enjoy outdoor activities; hiking, swimming, snowshoeing, rafting and being with family and friends.

Chris Quimby
Board Member
Chris Quimby comes to his work as Director of the Lacey and Olympia Senior Centers from a history of working in Human Services. Graduating from University of Montana with Bachelors in Sociology and Radio and Television Production, Chris brought his passion for working with people and communication skills to all his work positions. Beginning as a caregiver providing in-home care while he was in college, Chris learned the joys of working with older adults. He became the coordinator of a three county Volunteer Chore Services program, recruiting volunteers and matching them to seniors in need. In 2004, Chris became the manager of the new Lacey Senior Center. He brought creativity, positive energy and enjoyment of others to this small, relatively new (one year old) center. When the Director of the Olympia Senior Center retired, Chris became the program director overseeing both the Olympia and Lacey Senior Centers. Chris supervises a staff of 6 full and part-time people to provide a wide array of classes, programs and services to the older adults of Thurston County. His strengths of being an excellent listener and a hard worker combine with his sense of humor to help him excel at leading both senior centers with a combined membership of over 2,000.
Chris is looking forward to helping with fundraising for WSASC. He has some experience with sponsorship with various programs and events at the Senior Services, and asking for money isn’t as hard as it used to be, so he feels excited about expanding on that at both Senior Services and with the WSASC.
Chris graduated from the University of Montana in 1996 with Bachelors of Arts degrees in Radio/Television Production and Sociology. He lives in Olympia, Washington, and enjoys spending time with his many friends and his sister’s family (Being an uncle was the reason Chris moved to the area back in 1997). Chris also enjoys yoga, reading, playing the guitar, singing, hiking and cooking, and thoroughly enjoys playing the saxophone with the Senior Rock and Roll Choir, which would make him a professional musician, now wouldn’t it?
